Project URLs

Every Project has two Castaly-hosted website URLs: a Preview URL for testing the latest build, and a Production URL for the published site.

You can customize the Production prefix, but you cannot connect a domain you own yet.

Preview URL

The temporary testing URL for the latest Preview.

Production URL

The public URL for the version you publish.

The Preview URL is where your latest build runs while you iterate. Use it to test the Project before publishing.

Platform-generated

Castaly creates it for you in the format {prefix}.preview.castaly.ai. You don’t configure it.

Read-only

You can’t edit the Preview URL. Use Copy to grab the link or Open to view the running build.

Preview lifecycle

The Preview URL is available after Preview is ready. If it expires, use Resume to restore it.

The Production URL is the public address for your published site, in the format {prefix}.castaly.site.

You can change the prefix. The .castaly.site suffix is fixed.

The Production URL becomes live after you Publish. Before your first publish, you can set the prefix ahead of time, but Open stays unavailable until there is a published site to open.

Open the Project URL settings from the Project Workspace:

Project Workspace → gear icon → Domain setting

Then edit the Prefix field under Production address and click Save.

The prefix is the only editable part of the Production Address.

  • Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.
  • 3 to 32 characters.
  • Can’t start or end with a hyphen.
  • Must be unique.

You can open or copy Project URLs from two places:

Project Settings

Use Domain setting to view Preview and Production addresses, copy them, open them, or edit the Production prefix.

Publish URL popover

After Publish, the URL popover gives quick access to Copy and Open for Preview and Production URLs.

The Publish URL popover is for quick access only. You cannot edit the Production prefix there; use Project Workspace → gear icon → Domain setting.

Castaly does not yet support connecting your own domain, such as example.com.

That means:

  • You cannot add DNS records or CNAMEs in Castaly yet.
  • You cannot replace .castaly.site with a domain you purchased.
  • Published projects should use the Castaly-hosted Production URL for now.
